The Miami-Dade School Board has made a selection for the new superintendent of public schools. Rafael Villalobos, currently the South Region Superintendent, has been chosen for the position. He was approved unanimously by the board after a lengthy process.

Villalobos was a finalist alongside Ernie Lozano, a chief human resources officer from Broward County Public Schools. Villalobos will take over for outgoing Superintendent Dr. Jose Dotres, whose contract is set to end in February 2027.
