Health officials are warning residents to take protective measures against dengue fever. The Centers of Disease Control and Prevention reports 485 cases in Florida this year. This outbreak is the largest in the continental United States in decades.

Most cases are found in Hillsborough and Miami-Dade counties, with the majority centered around Tampa. For comparison, California has 45 cases, the second highest in the country. Symptoms of dengue fever include fever and aches, and can be fatal in severe cases.
